 | 04:54 pm - a brief eulogy I'd just like to take a minute to bemoan the discontinuation* of the punky colour gelle line, because it was really unique and rather underappreciated. It wasn't just the punky colour line in a gel formula, the colors were completely different.
Anyway like I was saying there were some really beautiful colors in that line, like Blue Knight, PURE BLUE, and Emerald, PURE GREEN. It didn't seem to go bad like SFX and other dyes. I had a bottle of deep plum for five freakin' years and the last drop of it was the same as the first.
Unlike any other dye I've tried (I've pretty much tried them all), the colors didn't have funky undertones, so you wouldn't get any unpleasant surprises when it faded, or when you tried to bleach it, or mix two of the colors. You always knew exactly what you were getting. They made a few really UNIQUE shades like sea green, deep coral, and steel gray. I haven't used any of those, but I've loved all the colors I have used. Plus it was thick, not watery like MP's gel dyes, and it smelled like blueberries to boot!
NOW what do I do if I want to dye my hair sea green or coral?! Or if I want a custom color and need a dye that mixes well?!
*pardon me if this isn't a word!

 | 09:23 pm - *groan* Almost finished reading 'Rip It Up And Start Again', and who should get mentioned in the last chapter but... and Thea should find this mildly amusing... Michael Nesmith of the Monkees!! Not exactly someone I'd expect to crop up in a book about post-punk but there you go.

VOLKMAR BLESSED SINS Own Label?
Industrial Goth from Australia, with some real potency in its blood, because on the rare occasion Industrial Goth makes sense it eclipses Gothic Metal like a thunderstorm extinguishing a fart.
‘Eyes Sewn Shut’ makes for a griping entrée with such skilfully filleted guitars crossing one another beneath the expected gnarled vocals, and the brilliantly bouncy riff will please anyone, but with such clipped economical drums it gives the whole thing uplift and for once an Industrial band has a nippy song and after a quick break the song reverts to more typically refined Goth doziness in the vocals, like a martyred lover who probably needs to be carried everywhere, and fluttery drums accompany some distant, musing guitar, then they switch back to the tenser style and ram it home. ‘Blessed Sin’ also has that self-effacing weariness Goth owns for itself, with drama materialising out of the drizzling ether, with some cutely flowing guitar keeping the mood here richly melodic and full of vibrant energy instead of the usual Industrial stomping. That said it is a bit lighter than you expect as it glides on, but that’s better than clichés.

 | 04:32 pm - Checking in.. Hello Livejournal.. long time no see!
Just booked a ridiculous block of holiday at work.
We've a rather large number of gigs coming up that occur on non-Goth days (ie. not the weekend)..
Also I've run my time off for the two Last Dance support gigs we're doing in October into the period covering Whitby Goth Weekend (which I still tentatively intend to be at.. although not the main event this time) to amass an unprecidented TWO weeks off at once.. absolutely unheard of for me!
This has two results..
On the plus side I have a 10 working day October ahead of me.. which is so much full of awesome and some rather pleasant gigs to play.
On the negative side, I now only have 8 days of holiday spare to last me into April next year.. which may create difficulties if we need to have block time in a studio for the next album.
I must admit, I feel a bit guilty for booking two weeks off without it being essential for giggery.. I mostly don't go on holiday because I hoard my days off to enable gigs. However, work are tightening up on the amount of holiday we can carry over and I think I'm the only member of the band that conserves his days off like this anyway.. so it's probably not going to matter.
Oh, yes.. and it's about time I got a contiguous break.. even if it does feature two gigs in that period :)
I'll be at Artrocker tonight.. I'm hoping at least one of the Artrock-going-regulars will deem to join me this time.. it's always more fun if you have some company.
Still, bands and beer.. 2 out of 4[1] isn't _too_ bad..
Ed.
[1] The other two being friends and.. more rarely.. babes

http://mfrost.typepad.com/cute_overload/2008/08/and-now-this-cu.html BEIJING -- In Guinea Pig men's doubles today, the Dutch team suffered a stunning setback when teammate Pyetr Van Dingledangledongle got the ball stuck in his mouth and was volleyed for over a minute before judges ended the match. Reached for comment later, Van Dingledangledongle said "Mrhhph ghlrrfph thr fhlprrgth, sthllrth ig blurrpth."

We LOVE heem, Camilla S.
